One of my favorite store-bought cookies is the LU "Petit Ecolier" biscuit. I am currently have a craving for them. One of the things I look for in a cookie is NO TRANS FATS. Unfortunately, there are very few to choose from. The Little Schoolboy biscuit is one of the few cookies you can find on grocery store shelves that is made with butter. Remember butter?
Butter happens to have lots of flavor and makes for great cookies. Every homemade cookie recipe calls for it. At some point in recent history someone decided that butter was bad for us and this paved the way for hydrogenated oils, which have now been linked to cancer. Hydrogenated oils are, on a molecular level, oils that are forced into a saturated state by adding hydrogen to them. That's a simplistic explanation, but nonetheless understandable as a very artificial process.
If there were more choices available at the market for more natural cookies, The Little Schoolboy biscuit might get knocked out of #1 store-bought cookie position; for now, however, they are safe, and I want one. No, I want two, but I I might be persuaded to eat one more.
